<p>Actor Sanjay Dutt, who is serving prison term at Pune’s Yerwada Jail for illegal possession of an AK-47 assault rifle which was part of the consignment that landed ahead of the 1993 serial blasts, is expected to be a free man as early as March 2016. <br /><br /></p>.<p>However, Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Prof Ram Shinde said that the government has no information on this. <br /><br />“The government has not received any proposal for pardon of his tenure,” he said. <br />Reports said that Dutt is expected to be released by March 7 after putting together remissions because of his good behaviour, leaves and balance furlough and parole. <br /><br />He has been convicted in the March 12, 1993 serial blasts case – for possessing an AK-47 rifle, which he later destroyed. <br /><br />The rifle was part of the consignment that landed ahead of the serial blasts – and it was given to him by gangster Abu Salem. <br /><br />Justice P D Kode, the then special judge of TADA court, convicted him and awarded a six years imprisonment. <br /><br />The Supreme Court had upheld his conviction, but reduced the sentence by one year – making his jail term to five years.</p>
