Rousing welcome for Dalai Lama in Bylakuppe

Tibetan spiritual leader and Nobel laureate the Dalai Lama was accorded a traditional welcome by Tibetans at Bylakuppe settlement when he arrived here on Sunday.

The Tibetans, dressed in their traditional attire, played traditional instruments and bowed their heads in respect to the leader during his arrival at the settlement. The Dalai Lama was staying at Gurupura Settlement in Hunsur taluk upon his arrival five days ago.

The whole Bylakuppe settlement was decorated and festive atmosphere prevailed with incense sticks lighted at every nook and corner spreading fragrance all around.

Special arches had been erected and walls were decorated with colourful Rangolis on the stretch from the first camp to the Dharmashala, where the Dalai Lama stays.

The vehicular traffic on B M Road was stopped for a while by the police to clear the route for the spiritual leader to enter the settlement. According to a source, he would stay in the settlement and begin religious discourses from December 15.

The Tibetans have made all preparations for their spiritual head to have a comfortable stay in the settlement. The Dalai Lama will stay here for 21 days - up to January 3, 2016.

Participation

Thousands of Buddhist monks from New Delhi, Bodh Gaya, Nepal and from other parts of the country are expected to attend the religious discourse of the leader.Police security has been beefed up at the Tibetan camp.

In all, 500 police personnel, DySPs, 15 Circle Inspectors, 25 PSIs and 40 ASIs have been deputed to provide security for the visiting dignitary in the settlement.
