Shop encroaches on footpath & road

Mamata Traders, a shop on Banaswadi main road, has not only occupied the footpath but also encroached on the road. It uses the road to load, unload and stock iron rods for its business. Then there is a cement godown on the pavement. All these things have been hampering pedestrian movement for several years now. Will the authorities care to take action against the shop?

Shabby bus shelter
A 25-year-old bus shelter at 2nd main road, Banashankari 3rd Stage, 6th Block, 2nd Phase, is shabby and could collapse anytime. Located at an intersection, the bus shelter blocks traffic on the road as passengers hurry to board buses arriving from Hosakerehalli.

Streetlights do not work
Streetlights on 8th main road near 11th Cross, Malleswaram, have not been working for the last 30 days. I filed a complaint (number 10609113) with the BBMP last month and followed it up with another complaint (number 10611438) a few days later. The BBMP, however, hasn’t taken any action. Is it waiting for some crime to wake it up?

Site turns dumping yard

A vacant site (number: 1271/1) at 45th Cross, Kumaraswamy Layout, has been lying unattended and used as a dumping yard. The site is infested with weeds, mosquitoes, rats and other waste. Will the authorities concerned instruct the owner to clean it up?

Repair road, regulate traffic
Thyagarajanagar main road, the vital link between Basavanagudi and Banashankari, is narrow and uneven. For almost a year, civic agencies and utilities dug it up intermittently.
The surface is yet to be asphalted. Some stretches are full of potholes and make driving a back-breaking experience. In addition, during peak hours, there is heavy traffic jam at the intersection near Aishwarya Ganesha temple. I request both the BBMP and the traffic police to do the needful.

Phone makers block pavements
Smartphone makers, Oppo and Vivo, have been causing hardship to pedestrians across the city, by blocking footpaths and service roads with their large publicity models and blaring loud music.

No signal outside Vijaya Bank head office
There is a free left traffic signal in front of the Vijaya Bank head office on MG Road. This is where MG Road branches out to Old Madras Road and Kensington Road. The road is very busy. The free left signal makes it difficult for pedestrians (especially senior citizens) to cross the road because the vehicles going left doesn’t stop or slow down. They need to sprint to cross to busy road and risk their lives. The traffic police must put up a regular signal at the intersection to help pedestrians.

Dumping yard in a serene atmosphere
People have been dumping debris on a vacant land opposite Royal Orchid Resort, Allalasandra, Yelahanka. Meat shops, bars and restaurants use the land to dump their garbage. This has led to unbearable stink and cow menace. Worse, some people defecate on the land. The road is the direct link to the bus stop. The authorities must take action to clean the place.

Relentless digging
One side of the footpath at 11th main in Jayanagar from Cool Joint to Raghavendra Mutt has been dug up for civic works more than a dozen times in the last two years and relaid. Pedestrians have been put to hardship.

Theft of power
At two different places in JP Nagar, 8th Phase, raw power is being tapped directly from the electricity pole without any temporary meter. At one place, construction labourers have made a tapping tool for drawing power with little hurdle. In contrast, the Bescom is quick to disconnect residential connections at JP Nagar, 8th Phase, if the bill payment is delayed slightly.

Garbage not cleared near Halasuru market
The dumping yard at Gowlee Street near the Halasuru market raises a lot of stink. Garbage is thrown the whole day but cleaned just once. The dumping yard is located right in front of a church and temple. The BBMP should shift the dumping yard and clean the place.
