While addressing Dalit entrepreneurs, he invoked his admiration for Baba Saheb Ambedkar and affinity to the downtrodden, and said, “It is your government.
Inaugurating the National Conference of Dalit Entrepreneurs, the prime minister asserted that financial inclusion is at the core of the government's focus, which is to create job-creators, not job-seekers. The conference was organized by Dalit Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DICCI).
He mentioned the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana and the Venture Capital Fund for First Generation Entrepreneurs which are meant for providing loans to needy entrepreneurs.
“80,000 borrowers have benefited from the scheme under which more than Rs 50,000 crore worth of loans have been given primarily to SC, ST, OBCs and women entrepreneurs who are engaged in small business and provide jobs to about 14 crore persons,” he said.
Expressing his admiration for the great Dalit leader, he said that while Dr Ambedkar is widely hailed as the architect of our Constitution, he was also a great economist. He said that Dr Ambadkar had a vision for industrialization of India. He referred to Ambedkar’s view that Dalits, who had no land of their own, could only progress through industrialization.
