New CS vows to continue initiatives of predecessor

New Chief Secretary Arvind Jadhav on Thursday said he will continue with initiatives taken by his predecessor Kaushik Mukherjee during his tenure as the bureaucratic head of State.

Interacting with the media after taking charge at Vidhana Soudha, he said Mukherjee has successfully served as the Chief Secretary by ensuring proper coordination between the political heads and the departments. “I only need to continue with his good initiatives. I hope I will get cooperation from all,” he stated.

He said the Centre has already agreed to give financial assistance to take up drought-relief works in the State. Measures will be taken to get the funds at the earliest, he added.

Asked about his short tenure of six months, Jadhav said the system is important and not the person. Chief secretaries will come and go.

The tenure of a chief secretary is not important. What is important is the leadership and the style of functioning, he added. He clarified that he is a native of Dharwad of Karnataka and not Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh, as mentioned in his service record in the State Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR).
