Two students among 5 killed in separate accidents

Five people, including two students, were killed in separate accidents in the City on Thursday.

Priyadarshini, 19, a BCom student of Vivekananda College, was killed on the spot and her mother Shanthamma suffered a leg fracture when a mini bus knocked them down at GKW Layout in Peenya police limits, while they were returning home after visiting the Ayyappa temple at Jalahalli on Thursday morning.

The driver abandoned the bus and fled the spot, police said.

Nayan Nair, 18, a resident of Santrupthinagar, died instantly when the two-wheeler he was riding collided head-on with a tanker at RBI Layout, 7th Phase, JP Nagar on Thursday evening. Nair, a PUC student, was on his way to his friend’s house. Police said he was trying to squeeze the bike between a car and the tanker at high speed. He fell down and came under the front wheel of the tanker.

A BMTC bus mowed down an 18-year-old boy, a resident of Kammanahalli in Nehrunagar, at around 4.30 pm on Thursday. The victim, Suresh, a native of Tamil Nadu, was riding pillion on his friend Rajkiran’s scooter when the bus knocked them down at Ullasappa Junction. Suresh was crushed under the front wheel of the bus, while Rajkiran escaped with minor injuries. Police have seized the bus and arrested the driver Kamalakar.

Khurshid, 70, was killed and his relative Imtiyaz, 35, was injured after a truck rammed their bike at Kuvempu Circle near Jalahalli at 11.30 am, when the duo, residents of DJ Halli, were proceeding to MS Palya to meet Khurshid’s daughter.

The duo was rushed to a nearby hospital where Khurshid died of his injuries in the evening. The condition of Imtiyaz is stated to be serious. Police have detained the driver, Kumar, and seized the truck.

Rajashekhar, 25, of Mariyannapalya in Dasarahalli, died when his bike collided with a goods vehicle in Hebbal on Thursday afternoon. He suffered severe head injuries as he was not wearing a helmet. The Hebbal traffic police have arrested the goods vehicle driver Jaikumar, 22.
