CID, SIT heads probing corruption in Lokayukta, mining shunted

Big ticket IPS reshuffle sees 40 officers transferred

The State Government resorted to a major reshuffle of IPS officers on Friday and transferred about 40 police officers, including heads of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Special Investigation Teams probing corruption in the Karnataka Lokayukta and illegal mining.

Top police officers of Lokayukta, ADGP Prem Shankar Meena and SP Sonia Narang, have also been transferred. ADGP Kamal Pant, who had been probing serious charges of corruption in the anti-corruption ombudsman as SIT chief, has been transferred as ADGP, Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP). Post of the SIT chief has been kept vacant.

Sonia Narang was one of the officers instrumental in exposing corruption in the Lokayukta, leading to the resignation of Justice Y Bhaskar Rao as Karnataka Lokayukta recently. She has been promoted and posted as DIG, CID Bengaluru.

Meena has been promoted and posted as DGP, Training, Bengaluru. IGP K S R Charan Reddy, who had been probing illegal mining cases as the SIT chief, has been shifted.

Krishnamoorthy, has replaced Reddy and S Parashivamurthy is now ADGP, Lokayukta. IGP K V Sharath Chandra, who was heading the CID, has been transferred as IGP and ACP (Crime), Bengaluru City. Charan Reddy is posted as IGP and ACP, West, Bengaluru. Many of the transferred officers have been promoted.

Besides, the government has transferred four IAS officers with immediate effect. Senior IAS officer T M Vijay Bhaskar has been made Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Urban Development Department, and Mahendra Jain has been posted as ACS to Forest, Ecology and Environment Department. Vijay Bhaskar will also hold concurrent charge as Chairman, BWSSB.
