A container lorry rammed into a couple of electricity poles resulting in power outage in Mahadevapura in the early hours of Friday.

According to police, around 4 am, the driver of the container lorry lost control over the vehicle when he was taking a turn to go towards Singaiahanapalya and rammed into an electricity pole.

The driver could not stop the vehicle and rammed into another electricity pole and the vehicle before coming to a halt. The electric wires were pulled down by the lorry bringing down more poles with them.

There was no power in Mahadevapura for around eight hours.

The passersby alerted the police who rushed to the spot and found the poles that had been pulled down.

They informed officials of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) who immediately cut the power supply.

The driver of the container lorry fled the spot after abandoning the vehicle. A case has been registered against him for rash and negligent driving.

The power supply in the area was restored only in the evening, said the police.

The Bescom officials said the accident caused a loss of Rs eight lakh to the company. They will now have to take up restoration work.
