Last Updated 09 January 2016, 19:42 IST

With the Ministry of Power gearing up for auctioning of three ultra mega power projects (UMPP) entailing investments of Rs 80,000 crore in early March, the government awaits the investors’ response as this will be first mega projects going for hammer in this year.

The ministry already completed the inter-ministerial consultations on preparation for revised bidding documents for three projects—Cheyyur in Tamil Nadu, Bedabahal in Odisha and Tilaiya in Jharkhand and same is expected to sent to the cabinet for its nod, an official in the ministry told Deccan Herald.

The investment for an UMPP of 4,000 MW has been revised from Rs 20,000 crore to about Rs 27,000 crore each recently on the basis of rise in the price of coal and land.

Though the government is planning to set up six UMPPs, right now the ministry is focussing for bidding only three projects, while identification for land and other infrastructure facilities were on for proposed projects in Banka district of Bihar and  Deogarh in Jharkhand.
