Members of the BJP staged a protest on Wednesday against Congress MLA  Munirathna and councillor GK Venkatesh demanding that the government take disciplinary action against them for disrespecting women councillors.

Party workers held placards and raised slogans against the duo in front of the BBMP Council Hall and urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara to initiate action against both the Congress leaders.  The protestors threatened to teach the two a lesson if they did not mend their ways and continue to commit atrocities against women councillors. They said that the government to take action within two days. BJP leader and Jayanagar MLA BN Vijaya Kumar said: “We too know a thing or two about hooliganism too. This should be first and the last. If women and members of the public are not respected we will have to interfere and teach the violators a lesson.”

Opposition leader in BBMP Council Padmanabha Reddy said that it is surprising that the chief minister and home minister have not taken action against the Congress leaders despite Asha Suresh hailing from the Congress. Asha, a councillor from HMT Layout Ward, had earlier alleged that she was facing harassment and threat to life from her own party MLA from Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Munirathna.

Similarly, BJP councillor from JP Park Mamatha Vasudev, said that Congress councillor GK Venkatesh ‘abused’ her. She told Deccan Herald: “During one of the programmes held on December 30, Venkatesh abused me and my family while I was speaking about the development activities taken up in my ward.  I will abide by my party's decision and follow their instructions on next course of action.”

Former mayor Katte Satyanarayana, former ruling party leader in BBMP Council NR Ramesh,  MLA Satish Reddy and other women councillors from BJP took part in the protest.
