My Country Run on January 31

Running enthusiasts in the city will have something to look forward to when the first edition of ‘My Country Run’ - a multi-category event - kicks-off at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on January 31.

Cricketer Robin Uthappa, who has been roped in as the ambassador, and JGI Group chairman Chenraj Roychand unveiled the event’s poster here at the CMS, Jain University.

The run is divided into three categories - The Elite 10K, The Open 10K and the Cool 5K. The Elite section is for the runners who finish the Open 10K in under 60 minutes while the Cool 5K is for the new runners.

The 10K run will have a five kilometre loop. The runners will run through Cubbon Park and return to the stadium.

Athletes from Africa are also expected to take part in the event while the meet is expected to see close to 10,000 participants.

The entry fee for the Elite 10K and Open 10K is Rs 800 for the students and Rs 1000 for others.

The prize money for the Elite event is Rs 1 lakh for foreign athletes and the top Indian finisher will get Rs 75,000 said Race Director Gul Mohamed Akbar.

“However, if an Indian runner manages to beat the foreign athlete and comes first in the Elite race, he will be given Rs 1 lakh,” he added.
