The calendar of events for allocation of seats under the RTE quota for LKG and UKG in private schools is yet to be announced even though it has been more than a week since the High Court vacated the stay on such admissions.

Parents seem to be anxiously waiting for the calendar of events, usually out around December or November, to admit their children to LKG and UKG under the 25 per cent quota.

Dakshina Murthy, a driver and resident of Kasturibanagar on Mysuru Road, wants to admit his daughter to LKG and has been enquiring about admissions for the past two months.

“I am quite tense and do not know what to do. Sending her to a government school is not an option as I want to get her the best education in a private school,” he added.

P Manjunath, a cylinder delivery boy wants to admit his daughter to class 1 under the quota. However, the wait is becoming unbearable for him. “I deliver around 25 cylinders per day and get Rs 10 for each. I am not well off but I want my daughter to get a good education,” he said.

Manjunath’s daughter has studied in a private school during her UKG and LKG and he wants her to continue in the same school.

“I have asked the school about the admissions and I have been told that there has been no word from the government,” he said.

Meanwhile, K S Sathyamurthy, Commissioner, Department of Public Instruction (DPI) told Deccan Herald that the calendar of events would be out in a day or two.

The Associated Managements of Government Recognized English Medium Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) approached the court seeking directions to restrain the
Department of Primary and Secondary Education and DPI from sending children for admission to LKG and UKG under the 25 per cent quota as per the Right to Education Act.

On January 18, the High Court vacated the stay on RTE admissions for LKG, UKG in private schools.
