Raghupathy Bhat flays MLA's statement

Last Updated 10 February 2016, 18:51 IST

Former MLA Raghupathy Bhat has defied MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj to make the issue related to 10 per cent commission to people’s representatives on the allocated funds for the development schemes clear.

Speaking to mediapersons, he charged that the MLA’s statement has damaged the institution of the administration. The baseless statement, like the MLA’s about receiving ten percent commission out of the total allotments, is absurd. The MLA should make the names of the MLAs who have received ten percent commission clear and also should list out the programmes he has initiated.

He has claimed the credit for flow of funds up to Rs 1,320 crore. However, he should not include the projects introduced during the former BJP rule, the Union government sponsored programmes and also various other schemes. The present government is just carrying forward the programme initiated by the previous BJP government, he charged.

He said the MLA has failed to fulfil assurances he had made in the poll manifesto. Corruption is rampant in taluk and the urban development authority offices and people have to grease officials’ palms to get their work done, he claimed.

Maintaining that the BJP is surely on the winning  side, Bhat said that people are fed up with the Congress rule and are badly in need of a good change. The party has fielded the best candidates, he said. Bhat said BJP is responsible for all the development in the district. But the development process is standing still in the past three years.

The drinking water problem is rampant and the MLA is not taking any measures to supply water, he alleged.

He alleged that the MLA’s irresponsible attitude snatched way the opportunity of setting up of a university PG sub-centre at Uppur and also the taluk panchayat status to Brahmavar. The university PG sub-centre is now coming up at Belapu and Kaup is approved for the upgradation into taluk panchayat, he said.

Bhat said nearly 55,000 BPL cards have been annulled.

He said the former MP Jayaprakash Hegde’s decision to ensure Congress defeat in the district would be blessing in disguise for BJP. “There are only two direct rivals in the politics --- Congress and BJP.

The Congress defeat is absolutely a BJP victory and the benefit will not go to any other small or regional parties as they do not have the existence. The top and strong senior Congress leaders have revolted against Congress backing Jayaprakash Hegde,” he said.  BJP candidate for zilla panchayat election in Brahamvar constituency Sheela Shetty said she is confident of winning and there is no difference within the party for giving her the opportunity to contest. Scarcity of drinking water and bad road problems need to be addressed immediately, she added.
