Nagarajappa, the father of IPS officer who passed away in Chennai recently, said on Saturday that his son had died of a heart attack. Nagarajappa’s statement may put to rest speculations surrounding the death of Harish, who worked as  an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Tamil Nadu.

“My son was undergoing treatment every week at a private hospital in Chennai. I was with him till Monday (February 15). I returned to Bengaluru in the evening the same day. He has died of a heart attack. If his soul has to rest in peace, the public should stop holding protests,” he told Deccan Herald during the officer’s cremation on Saturday.

The cremation took place at the family’s farmhouse at Gerupura in the taluk. Police fired three rounds in the air as a mark of respect to the departed officer.

Nagarajappa said there were no apprehensions about his son’s death and so there was no need for an investigation. Harish suffered from a cardiac problem for some time and that he was not the one to commit suicide, the officer’s father said. There were no issues either in Harish’s professional or personal life, he said.

Deputy Commissioner K V Trilokchandra, Arun Chakravarthi, IGP (central range), SP Divya Gopinath and other officials were present at the ceremony which took place as per Veerashaiva traditions.
