Baker sets himself ablaze

A baker allegedly committed suicide, by setting himself ablaze at the shop, on the campus of a reputed educational institution in the city, on Tuesday.

The deceased is identified as Raghunath Rao (57), who was running BGS Cool Corner and Bakery at BGS Nursing College, Kuvempunagar. A resident of ‘K’ Block in the same locality, Rao who came to the shop early in the morning, took the extreme step.

According to Ashokapuram Police, Rao doused himself with kerosene before setting himself afire at the toilet room behind the bakery between 6.45 am and 7 am. He later ran out of the toilet and collapsed, even as some college workers tried to rescue him. The police said, Rao took the extreme step as he was deep in debt. A case has been registered.
