JOIN USA garbage truck belonging to the BBMP was set on fire by a mob after it knocked down a bike-borne youth, crushing one of his legs, near PESIT at Hosakerehalli on Saturday.
The victim, Anil Kumar, a resident of Nagashettihalli, and his friend Vasanath Rao, a resident of Srirampuram – both engineering students – were on their way to Nayandahalli from Banashankari around 4 pm, when the speeding truck knocked down their bike, injuring Kumar grievously, said the police. Kumar is being treated for his injuries at a private hospital. Minutes after the accident, local residents gathered in large numbers at the spot and pelted the truck with stones before setting it on fire. Two fire tenders were rushed to spot to douse the blaze.
As a precautionary measure, the jurisdictional Banashankari police deployed additional forces in the area.
Traffic on the outer ring road at Hosakerehalli was disrupted for over an hour. The police have seized the truck and are on the lookout for the driver.
