Four passengers suffered burns when a bottle containing an inflammable substance broke in an outbound private bus near Anand Rao Circle near Majestic in the heart of Bengaluru on Tuesday evening.

Around 7.30 pm, an SRS Travels bus bound for Jamkhandi, Bagalkot, was about to depart with all passengers onboard. Just then, a bottle kept in the passenger luggage atop the bus broke and the inflammable substance started dripping down. Four passengers sitting on the window seats came in contact with it. Two of them suffered burns on their hands while the other two hurt their eyes, the jurisdictional Upparpet police said.

All those in the bus rushed out and the injured passengers were taken to the Victoria Hospital. Meanwhile, angry passengers and members of the public slammed the bus operator for carrying luggage without checking it. Traffic on the busy road was disrupted for an hour. Police reached the spot and pacified the protesters. The police have seized the luggage and are trying to identify its owner. The inflammable substance has been sent for forensic examination.
