Ensure sufficient power supply this summer: MPs

Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayan on Thursday directed officials of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc) Limited to ensure sufficient power supply to facilitate drinking water supply in the district.

Chairing the District Electricity Committee meeting at Deputy Commissioner’s office, here, Dhruvanarayan who anticipated severity in situation in the months of April and May directed the Cesc officials to be on their toes to address the requirements.

The MP asked the authorities to complete ongoing projects within stipulated time and directed the officers to give priority to provide electricity connection to tribal hamlets. Expressing displeasure over the ongoing works taken up under Union Ministry of Power, the MP said, he was not satisfied with the progress of several works and their quality.

Mysuru and Kodagu MP Pratap Simha echoed similar views. Cesc Superintendent Engineer (SE) Narasimhegowda said, the power crisis had emerged from last week due to poor power generation. Despite the situation, power is supplied up to 19-20 hours under ‘Nirantara Jyothi’ programme and six hour for Irrigation Pumpsets (IP).

New project
Mysuru, Nanjangud, T Narsipur, Bannur, Hunsur, Periyapatna, HD Kote, Sargur and KR Nagar have been selected under Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS), a new project. Apart from strengthening power lines, capacity of transformers will be increased and meters will be installed to keep a tab on the consumption of power.

The authorities have legalised 12,000 IP sets in Mysuru and still 26,000 more such sets remain to be legalised. To plug the leakge and theft, the officials must take measures and create awareness among farmers and common people, the MP said. Additional Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh was present.
