Will not contest poll, says tribal rights activist

Last Updated 25 March 2016, 19:18 IST
Kerala BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan stated on Friday that he was open to discussions with tribal rights activist C K Janu for the May 16 Assembly election.

The move echoes BJP’s attempts to bring in more people from the non-political spheres into its fold ahead of the May 16 Assembly election in Kerala.

Responding to the BJP’s offer to contest the election for the party, Janu, leader of the Adivasi Gothra Maha Sabha, said she would not contest poll.

Leaders of different political fronts are learnt to have approached Janu with offers of candidature. Rajasekharan had earlier said in New Delhi that Janu was among the probable candidates the BJP was considering.

The BJP state president also said cricketer S Sreesanth would formally become a member of the party but did not confirm his candidature.
