Stadium blast case: HC orders framing of charges against accused

Last Updated 06 April 2016, 20:19 IST

The High Court on Wednesday directed Bengaluru District and Sessions Court to frame charges, in three months, with regard to the cases filed against the accused involved in the blast at Chinnaswamy Stadium in the city ahead of an IPL match in 2010.

Justice A V Chandrashekhara passed an order stating that as the CCB (City Crime Branch) has already filed the charge sheet, the charges have to be framed within three months.

Bail rejected
The bench passed the order while rejecting the bail to accused number 14 in the case, Fashi Mehmood, stating that there are serious allegations made against the accused and during the investigation confidential details have been gathered from the accused. The hearing of the case is yet to begin in the lower court.

At this juncture, it would not be appropriate to grant the bail, he noted.

Fashi Mehmood, an engineer working in Saudi Arabia, was arrested in Chimmaswamy Stadium blast case in 2012 and is under judicial custody since then.

He has contended that baseless allegations have been made against him and that he has already completed four years of jail term and hence he must be granted bail.

The bench rejected his bail application and refused to grant bail.
