Cong demands probe into corruption cases during its own tenure

Uttarakhand Congress today urged Governor K K Paul to order an investigation into all alleged corruption cases which surfaced during the tenure of the party's government before President's rule was imposed in the state.

"All the so called corruption cases during Congress government since 2012 till March 27 when President rule was imposed in the state be investigated by a competent and independent probe agency," Pradesh Congress Committee President Kishore Upadhyay said.

He said the party is ready for any probe as it has nothing to fear.

Upadhyay met the governor in this regard along with Pradesh Mahila Congress President Sarita Arya and former ministers Dinesh Agarwal and Harish Durgapal among others.

His statement comes at a time when BJP is conducting a Bhrashtachar Hatao, Uttarakhand Bachao Yatra in the state against corruption.

The PCC president also demanded the reports of all the probe commissions, that investigated corruption cases and scams under successive governments in the state since its creation in 2000 be made public.

Upadhyay also asked the Governor to immediately promulgate an ordinance proposed by the ousted Harish Rawat government for confiscation of benami properties.

Had Rawat been in power a legislation in this regard would definitely have been introduced in the state assembly, he said.

Upadhyay said he was pained at the current political developments in Uttarakhand as they symbolise state's failure to fulfil the aspirations that guided the statehood movement.

"The defections the party suffered recently were the darkest chapter in the history of political corruption," he said.
