Shekarappa quits as VTU acting vice chancellor

Last Updated 02 May 2016, 18:27 IST

Acting vice chancellor of Vishweshwaraya Technological University, H G Shekarappa, resigned from the post on Monday.

Reliable sources in the university quoted him as saying that he could not continue in the post given the “prevailing situation.” Governor Vajubhai Vala had appointed Shekarappa the acting vice chancellor after vice chancellor H Maheshappa was suspended for alleged irregularities. It may be recalled that the university registrar K E Prakash had submitted his resignation to Shekharappa on April 28 when the Governor had visited the campus to take part in the 4th convocation of Rani Chennamma University. Now, with Dr Shekharappa’s resignation, the sole technical varsity in the state has been rendered headless.

Maheshappa said the institute had plunged into total chaos as a result of the latest resignation. “There are no longer any officials holding any post at VTU. This has never happened in the history of the university,” he said.
