“Mahadevan Padmanabhan Iyer (42), a mechanical engineer working in BARC’s Reactor Group, was found murdered at his residence near Breach Candy Hospital late on Monday night,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mohite said.

Iyer, from Tamil Nadu,  was found lying in his bed with a rope tied around his neck, which bore injuries. Iyer was last seen on Saturday, he said.

The postmortem report revealed that he was assaulted with a blunt object which led to internal bleeding in the brain. A murder case was registered.
Iyer’s body was found by his neighbour who entered the house using a duplicate key as the scientist did not respond to his calls for the last two days.

The neighbour grew suspicious when he found newspapers piling up outside Iyer’s house, police added.
