French goodness

Located in a corner of Koramangala, Bonjour! is hard to spot unless you have an eye for quaint cafes. One steps into a pleasant atmosphere, resembling a street in Paris with comforting French music.

The bistro focuses on traditional French delicacies and is owned by 3 French expatriates — Louis Piaulet, Vincent Pirquet,  Clement Ribeaud — and Kamal Sharma. 

The different flavours leave one content and the dishes have cute French names like ‘Óoh La La’ and ‘Bon Appetit’. The absence of entrees means one dives straight into the main course, with creations like ‘Rendezvous’, a zucchini and cheese-filled galette; ‘Çést la vie’, with mushroom and bechamel stuffing and ‘Brunette’, oozing with caramelised onions and mustard. The lemon and peach flavoured iced teas provide respite from the heat along with milkshakes like ‘Kiwi Shakerato’.

Neatly presented without too much fuss, the galettes come in reasonably sized portions. The galettes themselves are a little on the tougher side, but the stuffing sings, flooding one’s senses with the classic, all too familiar French flavours of soft, creamy goodness. The cheese and veggie stuffing is generous and does justice to the prices. The drinks complement the galettes beautifully, although the lemon iced tea is more juice than tea. The mild kiwi flavour of the milkshake cuts through the creaminess of the zucchini and cheese, leaving one asking for more.

For dessert, one can go for the ‘Bon Voyage’ — a soft crepe with frangipane filling. The table is overwhelmed with the scent of vanilla as it arrives. The crepe is soft and the flavours caress rather than assault one’s senses with a muted sweetness to cleanse the palate. The service is prompt and courteous, but seating can be difficult due to space constraints. ‘Bonjour!’ is located at 424/A, 1st Main, Koramangala 7th block.
