He’s made us laugh and he’s connected with the audience through his performances. He’s touched many hearts with his choice of movies in Hindi and Tamil. But apart from his love for films, he also nurtures an interest in playing golf.

R Madhavan

was recently at the Karnataka Golf Association course for the Louis Philippe Cup tournament. He displayed his skills amongst other pros who were at the course.
In a chat with Anila Kurian, he talks about his love for the sport.

Why golf?

It’s something that everyone can play — young or old. It’s also not a difficult game for anyone to get a hang of.

What are your expectations from the Louis Philippe Cup tournament this year?
I hope the golfers break some records on the course. There are a lot of pros along with amateurs and it’s a great place to display your skills. It will be a fun tournament to watch.

Your thoughts on Bengaluru...

It’s a great city and there’s a lot of greenery here. It’s definitely cooler compared to where I am from and I hope it stays that way.

Any upcoming projects? Nothing at the moment, even though I am reading a few scripts. I choose what appeals to me and it also depends on what kind of a mood I am in.

And what mood are you in now?

(Laughs) A slightly relaxed, lazy state of mind.

Your favourite artiste.
I like Kishore Kumar because I think he is a natural. You can feel the rawness of emotions expressed in his songs.

Your thoughts on the new generation music...

I’m trying my best to relate to it but I guess it’s still going to take some time.

Your favourite book.

My chequebook.

A place you’d like to spend time at?

Canada, New Zealand and the USA — simply because I can do whatever I want freely without being questioned. I can watch a movie, go to the golf course or just take my car out for a drive.

Who do you look up to?

My dad because he is an extremely satisfied man with whatever he has. He’s the kind within his confines.

A cuisine that you can have any time of the day.
Anything vegetarian in Japanese and Italian.

Your best performance in Bollywood so far.

‘Saala Khadoos’.

How did you celebrate your birthday (June 1)?

It was a very private one where I spent time with my wife and we played golf.
