Youths attack RSS activist over minor argument

A 39-year-old Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist was attacked by a group of youths in Cottonpet on Saturday morning.

Soon after the incident, a group of RSS activists staged a protest in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) in Upparpet, demanding immediate arrest of the attackers.

According to the police, the victim Ramesh Vaishnav, a resident of Cottonpet, owns a toy shop near his house.

On Friday morning, when the RSS shakha was meeting in the Tulasi Thota ground in Majestic, a few people were playing cricket and the ball hit one of the RSS activists.

The activists asked them to move away as it was disturbing them. Both the parties argued for a while and the youths went away, said the police.

On Saturday morning around 6 am, a few youths assaulted the victim, who was going to shaka, and fled. The RSS activists who learnt about the incident, went to the spot and shifted the victim to Victoria Hospital. Vaishnav is recovering from the injuries he had sustained in the assault, added the police.

Later, the RSS activists went to the DCP’s office in Upparpet police station and staged a protest, demanding the arrest of the attackers. The DCP promised to take action and directed them to lodge a complaint in Cottonpet police station, said the police.

A senior police officer said, “A few youths have been detained and are being questioned in connection with the incident. Also, it is learnt that the victim had argued with a few people near his house over a trivial issue, and this might have led to the incident.

The police are investigating into the incident, which took place in the ground.” A case has been registered in Cottonpet police station and investigation is on.
