Jaipur boy tops JEE Advanced

Aman Bansal of Jaipur bagged the first rank in the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2016, the results of which were declared on Sunday.

While Bhavesh Dhingra of Yamuna Nagar secured the second rank, Kunal Goyal from Jaipur came in third. Gaurav Didwania, also a resident of Jaipur, was ranked ninth. Riya Singh of Kota, with an all India rank of 133, topped among the girls. The successful candidates are now eligible for admission in all Indian Institutes of Technology and other premier engineering colleges, and the Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad. A total of 10,575 seats are available to 22 IITs and ISM.

Bansal scored 320 out of 372, while Dhingra secured 312 marks, and Goyal got 310 marks. Nearly 1,98,000 students had appeared for the examination, conducted by IIT Guwahati in May under the Joint Admission Board (JAB).  With the declaration of the results, JAB will soon start the process of seat allocation.

With four new IITs scheduled to become operational in Chhattisgarh, Jammu, Karnataka and Goa from the 2016-17 academic year, there will be an increase of 569 seats for admissions to the premier technical institutes.

Apart from IITs, the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research; Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Rae Bareli; Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy, Visakhapatnam; and the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, will also admit students based on their scores in the JEE (Advanced).

Success mantra

Bansal (17) said a positive attitude and regular study patterns helped him ace the exam. “I always stayed positive and learnt how to deal with pressure. A thorough study pattern was my success mantra.”
