In her first meeting with PM Narendra Modi after her re-election, Jayalalithaa has urged the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Management Board and restrain Karnataka from building dams across the river at Mekedatu.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister presented a 29-point memorandum containing all major demands of the state during Tuesday’s meeting with Modi in New Delhi.

She pointed out that  on February 19, 2013, the Centre notified the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal dated February 5, 2007.

The Tamil Nadu government has since been urging the Centre to set up the CMB and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee to effectively implement the Tribunal’s final order, Jayalalithaa noted in the memorandum.

On the Mekedatu Scheme, the Chief Minister said Karnataka has called for an expression of interest to construct two reservoirs in total violation of the Cauvery Tribunal’s final order.
"I request Government of India to advise Government of Karnataka not to proceed with the project as this would violate the Final Order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal", she said.
