Rangavihara, a five-day theatre festival to mark the three decades of the state-owned theatre repertoire, Rangayana in Mysuru, starts on Friday.

The festival has been organised by Bengaluru-based troupe Bhagavatharu. There will be five pathbreaking plays, including those by renowned playwrights like Sriranga and Girish Karnad. A play based on late U R Ananth Murthy’s novel ‘Samskara’ will also be staged during the festival. Besides, a seminar ‘The journey of Kannada theatre in the last three decades’ will be held on Saturday.

All the plays will be staged by professional artistes from Rangayana. “Rangayana has completed 29 years. We hold drama festivals every year with different themes. But this is the first time that five selected plays from Rangayana will be performed in Bengaluru. We are expecting around 500 people every day,” Revanna, president, Bhagavataru, told Deccan Herald. Tickets are priced at Rs 100 per show and the plays will be staged from 7 pm to 9 pm. There will be light musical programmes at Ravindra Kalakshetra from 6 pm to 7 pm.
