Moderate rainfall in most parts of state

Rainfall was moderate in most parts of the state on Saturday. Rainfall receded in Uttara Kannada district with coastal and Malnad regions receiving moderate rainfall. Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta and Ankola received light drizzle.

Water in Tungabhadra dam near Hosapete increased by around 2 tmcft in a day following rainfall in the catchment areas. The reservoir had 5.3 tmc feet of water on Saturday night. While the dam can impound 133 tmcft of water, the storage capacity has come down to 100 feet due to heavy silt deposit.

Intermittent rains continued to lash several parts of Shivamogga district on Saturday. Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Hosanagar, Sagar, Thirthahalli, some parts of Sorab and Shikaripur received rainfall.

Belagavi city and its surroundings received good showers. The sky was overcast in most parts of the district. Khanapur, Kittur and Bailhongal received drizzle. Hukkeri and the surrounding areas received heavy rainfall on Friday night.

Rainfall receded in Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday, while Kodagu experienced a sunny day. Water level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2,840.52 feet. With heavy rains lashing Kalasa, River Bhadra was in spate.

Gusty winds on Saturday morning uprooted at least 200 trees and 131 electric poles at Padigar in Hebri of Udupi district. The Hebri-Manipal Mescom sub division transformer was damaged and the power supply in the region was cut off.

As rainfall declined in Kodagu, inflow to Krishna-Raja Sagara (KRS) dam has declined. But, the water level has increased by three feet. On July 1, the inflow was 22,242 cusecs and it declined to 18,225 cusecs on Saturday evening. Out flow is 2,675 cusec. The water level reached 83.30 feet on Saturday against 80.30 ft on Friday.

Water level at Kabini Reservoir has reached 2,262 ft and inflow is 10,000 cusec while out flow is 2,000 cusec. In 24 hours, water level has increased by two feet on Saturday.

In Hemavathi reservoir, the water level was 2,876 ft, while inflow was 11,404 cusec and outflow 125 cusec. Sakleshpur in Hassan district received 23 mm of rain on Saturday.
