The Gujarat High Court on Friday accepted Hardik Patel’s bail plea with a condition that he would have to stay outside the state for six months.
Hardik, the face of the Patel quota stir, has been behind bars at the Lajpore Jail of Surat since October 2015. The cases against him include charges of sedition. One was lodged at Amroli police station in Surat district in October 2015 for his suggestion to a supporter to “kill a policeman or two rather than commit suicide”.
In another case of sedition against Hardik and five others, the Ahmedabad crime branch charged him with involvement in plotting of violence after a rally in Ahmedabad on August 25, 2015. The complaint was based on more than 200 call intercepts by the crime branch and about 35 lakh messages sent across social media in the wake of detention of Hardik on the night of August 25, 2015.
