CPM, Cong to continue non-poll ties in Bengal

Last Updated 12 July 2016, 19:28 IST

The CPM has clarified on Tuesday that it would remain in the Congress company in West Bengal to fight  “violence and terror” of the Trinamool Congress.

The party has said that “the broadest unity should be forged for fighting the violence and terror and protecting democratic rights against the ruling Trinamool Congress onslaughts in West Bengal”. The statement obviously spells out the contour of the alliance that it would be non-electoral.

‘Clear confusion’

The statement which has come after the meeting of the West Bengal State Committee tries to clear the confusion over the line of the party on  allying with the Congress in the state. The meeting was held in Kolkata on July 10 and attended by general secretary Sitaram Yechury and former general secretary Prakash Karat.

Though the party has given a clear indication of a non-electoral partnership with the Congress, it has made it clear that there would be no electoral alliance with the latter. In current circumstances it hardly means  any thing as the state will not have any polls in near future.
