Demand for transfer of 'corrupt' AC gets shriller

Members of various organisations staged a protest here on Thursday, demanding the transfer of Assistant Commissioner Vijaya, who is facing allegations of corruption.

Vijaya was transferred as the Director of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences about 15 days ago. Channarayapatna Tahsildar Nagaraj had taken charge as the AC.

Meanwhile, Vijaya had approached the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) against the transfer and got a favourable decision. She assumed the office of assistant commissioner again recently.

The protesters alleged that the by reinstating Vijaya as assistant commissioner, the district administration is backing the corrupt officials.

BJP leader Yogish alleged that the people have to bribe the AC to get their work done. “The poor who approach the office for pahani and other works are being harassed for money. The staff members too are corrupt. Hence, the officer should be transferred,” he demanded.

The complaints lodged by the people are not considered and their applications are ignored. The AC considers works that are beneficial to her. The government should transfer her and reinstate Nagaraj in her place, he demanded.

The protesters set a deadline of one week for the transfer of Vijaya. If the government fails to consider their demands, they would intensify the protests, the agitators warned.

Raitha Sangha leaders said, a report on the alleged irregularities of Vijaya has been submitted to the Revenue minister. The issue should be considered seriously and probe should be ordered, they stressed.
