Last Updated 14 July 2016, 18:53 IST

Various non-BJP parties and organisations have called for Chikkamagaluru bandh on July 16, to urge the state government to conduct an unbiased investigation into DySP Kallappa Handibag and DySP M K Ganapathi’s suicide cases.

At a meeting convened at the tourist bangalow in the city on Thursday, JD(S), Congress, BSP, CPI, DSS, Janadani, Namma Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Kannada Sene, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Hasiru Sene, Autoriskshaw Drivers and Owners association and other organisations leaders decided to observe the bandh.

JD(S) state general secretary H H Devraj said some vested interests from the district have worked behind DySP Kallappa Handibag case. Two MLAs and the MP have been trying to mislead the case, he charge.

Khandya Praveen, who is behind the Kallappa incident, is being protected only because he belongs to Sangha Parivar, he charged.

CPI leader H M Renukaradhya said local politicians might have provoked Tejas Gowda to complain to police. An investigation should be held in this regard. But, the Congress leaders mislead the people saying that they will take a delegation to the chief minister, he claimed.

Congress leader M L Murthy said the bandh should be conducted for a genuine reason.
BSP leader K T Radhakrishna said the opposition, in the name of protest, has been indulging in bhajan, music and non-vegetarian meals in Vidhana Soudha.
