FIR delay: Agitators lay siege to police station

Last Updated 19 July 2016, 18:21 IST
Members of Hindu Jagaran Vedike and Sarvajanika Hitarakshana Vedike staged a protest in front of town police station on Tuesday. The protesters accused the police of not registering a First Information Report (FIR) against former minister K J George and two IPS officers in relation to suicide of DySP M K Ganapathi, complying with court orders.  They later withdrew their protest after an advocate apprised them that FIR has been filed.

The protesters, who were enraged over the alleged delay on the part of the police to file the FIR, laid siege to the station and also blocked road.

Addressing agitators, Hindu Jagaran Vedike leader Prasanna Bhat said, “The case should be handed over to CBI for investigation. It is only then justice can be ensured to bereaved family.”

Vedike’s taluk convener Ajit said, “It was unfortunate that despite court order, the police did not file FIR till 5 pm following day. The police seemed to have been reluctant following political pressure and higher-ups.”

Advocate Krishnamurthy, who arrived at the spot, said that the case has been booked (Crime number 89/2016) against George and IPS officers A M Prasad and Pronab Mohanty.
Ajit demanded immediate arrest of George.
