Last Updated 21 July 2016, 18:25 IST
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim has directed the RTO to take measures to shift bus stops situated at junctions with dense traffic, such as PVS Circle, and on Bunts’ Hostel road.

Chairing a road safety committee meeting at the court hall in his office on Wednesday, the deputy commissioner, who is also the president of the district road safety committee, said that measures like alternative routes and one-ways will also be taken. Ibrahim told the official concerned to take actions towards clearing of encroachments of parking spaces.

Speed breakers
The deputy commissioner directed the Public Works Department to see to it that the speed breakers constructed on the roads do not get damaged. He noted that there are very few humps on the highway and instructed the concerned officials to take proper measures to install sign boards, reflectors and speed breakers.

The DC, meanwhile, directed the ACP (Traffic) to take action towards stopping the operations of private taxis which have been violating rules.

In a separate meeting conducted towards the safety of schoolchildren in school buses and other vehicles ferrying schoolchildren, the deputy commissioner directed the deputy director of the Department of Public Instruction to chair a meeting of school managements this week and ask the school managements to allow vehicles to enter school campuses.

Earlier, School Vehicle Drivers’ Association honorary president Sunil Kumar Bajal said that the vehicles are not allowed to enter school campuses and, hence, the drivers are compelled to park vehicles on road sides.

The DC also cited 14-year-old Supreme Court ruling, setting the maximum limit of children in school vehicles. The same should be followed strictly, he ordered.

ADC Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Transport and senior regional transport officer in-charge G S Hegade, Traffic circle inspector Tilakchandra ACP (Traffic) and DDPI Walter D’Mello were present.
