The eight JD(S) rebel MLAs have decided not to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee on Wednesday. The committee, which had served show cause notices to the MLAs on June 27, had asked them to appear before it, and furnish an explanation.

But according to sources, the rebels are in no mood to follow the directive.

The party had constituted the committee, following the Rajya Sabha elections, where the rebels had indulged in cross voting. The committee had served individual notices to all eight legislators, charging them with varied anti-party activities. The notice states that if the MLAs fail to appear before the committee, then it will be forced to recommend disciplinary action against them. Currently, the party has suspended them.

Sources said on Tuesday that a few of the rebels shot off a reply to the committee stating that they had done no wrong. In his reply to the committee, N Cheluvarayaswamy, MLA, has said that he has always been a loyal party worker. The MLA indirectly took a dig at the committee. “I have read the entire show cause notice, and have understood a little bit of it.

Despite this, I have tried to furnish my reply to all the charges that have been levelled against me, to the best of my abilities,” it states.

The MLA has said that he has not gone against his conscience, and has never been disloyal to his party or its leadership.

Besides the internal probe, two JD(S) MLAs have appealed to the Legislative Assembly Speaker to disqualify the rebels.

Action has been sought against, B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan, N Cheluvarayaswamy, H C Balakrishna, Iqbal Ansari, Akhanda Srinivasmurthy, K Gopalaiah, Bheema Naik and Ramesh Bandisiddegowda.
