The formal launch of the Congress poll campaign for Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow on Friday will be an all-out Rahul Gandhi show.
Senior Congress leaders scotched speculation about Priyanka Vadra joining Rahul to launch the campaign in Lucknow as “baseless”. Party leaders said as per the poll strategy, Priyanka is expected to remain in the background and work closely in planning and execution of the Congress campaign in Uttar Pradesh where the party has been out of power for 27 years.
A view in the Congress is that if Priyanka and Rahul campaign together, the younger sister may steal the limelight and relegate the heir apparent to the background. A section of the party felt that Priyanka should come to the fore only after Rahul’s elevation to the post of Congress president.
On Friday, Rahul will interact with workers and office-bearers of the party during the ‘UP Udghosh’ programme at the Ramabai Ambedkar ground in Lucknow.
