Last Updated 03 August 2016, 18:37 IST

A tree fell on a Sira-bound KSRTC bus at Okalipuram Main Road on Wednesday afternoon.

An official from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Forest Cell said a Pouteria sapota tree fell on a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus at around 2 pm. But the forest cell was informed only around 4 pm. The tree was removed within one hour, he added.

“Nobody was injured as the tree fell on the front windshield of the bus and there were very few people in the bus. Also, by the time the BBMP team reached the spot, there was nobody in the bus and no complaint of injury was reported to us,” the official said.

He maintained that the roots of the tree had become weak and it was aged around 30 years. Hence, it could not withstand the strong wind and fell. The BBMP is yet to start a survey of the total number of trees in its limits and ascertain the weak and old ones, he stated.
