Senior advocate Fali S Nariman on Saturday advised the state government to take cautious steps on its future course of action with regard to the interim award of the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal.

“The state has two options - filing a review petition before the Tribunal or a special leave petition before the Supreme Court. The government has to take cautious steps after studying various tribunal orders as well as Apex Court judgements on inter-state water disputes,” Nariman, who is heading Karnataka’s legal team on inter-state water disputes, reportedly advised the state.

Water Resources Minister M B Patil and Law Minister T B Jayachandra met Nariman here and held discussions on the future course of action. Nariman is learnt to have said that the state has to express its anguish before the Tribunal over its order.

Emerging out of the meeting, Patil told reporters that the state would hold another round of discussions with the legal team soon, before taking the next course
of action.
