<p>To celebrate India’s 70th Independence Day, through the medium of music and dance, a group of artistes showcased India’s struggle for Independence as part of the fourth edition of ‘Jashn-e-Azadi’ at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium recently. <br /><br /></p>.<p>For the first time, artistes from two Asian countries — India and South Korea <br />performed together to celebrate the occasion as they share the same date of <br />Independence (August 15).<br /><br /> “The focus of the event is to make youngsters understand the true meaning of freedom and engage in the celebrations. Like other festivals, the day needs to be celebrated rather than being enjoyed as a holiday. Every Indian should celebrate this day with full zeal and belongingness,” said Ashok Sahota, national president, Nehru Bal Sangh, a socio-cultural NGO that organised the event. <br /><br />Under the direction of Santosh Nair from dance company, Sadhya, Indian artistes swayed to patriotic songs from pre and post Independence era. <br /><br />The audio visual contemporary dance and musical production was a 75-minute long show. <br /><br />Whereas South Koreans demonstrated energetic Taekwondo performances and recent winners of ‘K-POP (Korean Pop) 2016 India’ also showcased their singing and dancing talent.<br /><br />“Through this kind of co-operative celebration, we are looking to strengthen the <br />relationship between India and South Korea and pave the way for an everlasting friendship for the coming generation,” mentioned Kim Kum Pyong, director, Korean <br />Cultural Centre. <br /><br />Students from 30 schools and eminent personalities from different fields including director Ramesh Sippy, TV actor Kiran Juneja, internationally acclaimed director Deepa Mehta, AAP MLA Somnath Bharti and Korean Ambassador Hyuan Choo among others witnessed the <br />performances. <br /><br /></p>
