The cheerful ambience is the first thing that strikes you as you enter ‘Take 5’. Soft lighting, ample seating space and a courteous staff herald you into what promises to be a delicious journey.

Originally started in the Late 1980’s, it was one of the first pubs in Bengaluru. The restaurant was reopened in 2004 by Viraj Suvarna and has been doing roaring business since then. Recently, his son, Chirag Suvarna too joined him at the restaurant.

“My dad started the place, So he has been taking care of the thing for the past 12 years. I finished my BBM last year and after that I decided to start working here. I have been managing and programming the events taking place here for the past one year now,” says Chirag.

The restaurant specialises in continental and chinese cuisine as well as a wide range of  Euro-continental delicacies. And out of all their dishes, their steaks are the most popular choice. The different types of pastas are another favourite. But, as Chirag says, their USP is their appetiser called ‘Steak 5’ which always has people coming back.

Another highlight of the place are the live acts that keep happening here. There are performances almost every other day and the crowd has a gala time, either singing along with the artistes or taking centrestage on karaoke nights.

“The crowd that comes here is attracted by the live acts as much as the good food since we get artistes from all over town. Among customers, there are a lot of regulars who have been coming here for the past many years.”

Unlike many pubs, this place has enough options to satisfy both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.

There is an entire array of veg appetisers ranging from spinach and cheese croquettes and vegetable crostini to stuffed mushrooms and cheese rolls. Their crisp texture and delightful flavours certainly help you work up an appetite. For the non-vegetarians, there is an entire variety of appetisers made from fish, prawns, chicken, lamb, pork and beef.
Their green salads are highly recommended for the fresh vegetables and light flavouring though these might come across as a bit bland. The chicken salads are tangy and tickle your tastebuds.

The main course leaves one spoilt for choice with dishes like lemon chicken, shredded lamb with red and green bell pepper, prawn thail garlic, fish in black bean sauce and plenty more.  For vegetarians too, choices galore. For people who don’t feel like having any rice-based dish, there are options in Chopsuey and Noodles too. And there is a bar counter for people who want to relax after a hard day at work.

‘Take 5’ was recently renovated and the owners added a proper stage, some new lights and an advanced sound system. Combined with the black and white photographs of old musicians, the place is a perfect combination of old world charm and modern comforts. Talking about the name behind the restaurant, Chirag says, “My father is a huge fan of Dave Brubeck and especially his song called ‘take five’. So we named our restaurant after the song and even the decor of the whole place is inspired by that kind of a jazz theme. Also, the bands that come here primarily play kazz, blues and rock.”

One of the few places that support the music scene, ‘Take 5’ is a delight to visit and must-go place for anyone looking to enjoy a tasty meal with some good music.
The restaurant is located at 64, MSK Plaza, 2nd Floor, 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar.
