The students of Jain University built a model of ‘INS Vikrant’, to mark the occasion of the 70th Independence Day.

‘INS Vikrant’ is the first aircraft carrier used by the Indian government in 1971 Indo-Pak war. The 22-feet-replica of the warship not only rekindles wartime memories but also establishes the fact that patriotism is still alive in the minds of millennials.

The concept of the warship model is developed by the Animation Department of Jain University and it took one month to complete the structure.

About this initiative, Dinesh Damodaran, HoD of Animation Department, said, “Students of the department have come together to build this model to showcase the significance of this warship. Every year, we come up with some new initiatives to observe Independence Day in our university.” The model will be on display till August 23.

Professor Somshekhar V K, visual art faculty in animation department, said, “It took 40 days to build this model and 25 students were engaged in making it happen. We closely studied the structure and design of the original warship and then started with sketching and sectional drawing, and then designed the model. We tried to replicate all the significant details and bring 90 % of likeness in to the model.”

Hemant Raj, a student of visual art animation, enthusiastically spoke about the experience of the entire team engaged in building the model. He said, “Before building the model we had a pre-production of nearly 15 days. We closely studied the history of INS Vikrant and went through all of its details and then built a base for the model.”
As part of the celebration, a number of special activities have been slated for August 15, to mark the Independence Day apart from the flag hoisting.
