Take up agri, community-based works under NREGA, DKS tells GPs

District in-charge Minister D K Shivakumar said that the gram panchayats have been directed to take up agriculture related and community-based works at a cost of Rs 1 crore each under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Addressing the gathering during the Independence Day celebrations at Sir M Visvesvaraya Stadium in Mandya on Monday, Shivakumar said, “The officials should stay at their respective work place and be available to the public.”

Listing out other plans of the government, Shivakumar said, “All the pourakarmikas of the district will get shelter under the Pourakarmika Gruha Bhagya scheme. It has been decided to issue driving licences to 20,000 college students and the distribution of the same has begun.”

Housing facilities have been extended to 10,969 beneficiaries under various housing schemes like Basava, Indira Awas and other schemes. In all, 187 pure drinking water units have been set up, and the construction of 65 bhavans named after Dr B R Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram are underway, he said.

“The district will soon be declared an open defecation-free. The loans amounting to Rs 110 crore under various housing schemes have been waived off. In the agriculture sector, ponds for 2,214 beneficiaries and 54 polyhouses have been constructed at a cost of Rs 5.20 crore. In all, 15,350 farmers have been issued soil health cards,”  Shivakumar said.

Also, a large number of people are benefited by Rajiv Gandhi Chaitanya Yojane, Vidyasiri, Ksheera Bhagya and others, he added.

MLC Appajigowda, ZP president J Premakumari, CMC president Hosahalli Boregowda, former minister M S Atmananda, Deputy Commissioner Ziaulla and Superintendent of Police Sudhirkumar Reddy among others were present.
