The State BJP has lined-up a series of organisational events for the next three months starting with party national president Amit Shah’s visit to Mangaluru on August 21.

Shah will be visiting Ullal town in Mangaluru on August 21 to commemorate freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country. He will participate in a programme in memory of Rani Abbakka, the queen of Ullal who fought the Portuguese in the latter half of the 16th century. She is one of the earliest Indian rulers to fight the colonial powers. Shah will also visit the party office in Mangaluru city the same day. The BJP core-committee which met in Bengaluru on Tuesday discussed preparations for the Ullal event.

Speaking to reporters, BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa said the core-committee also discussed organisational matters pertaining to the party’s state unit that could be raised at BJP’s National Council meeting scheduled to be held in Kozhikode from September 23.

The core-committee decided to hold a two-day state executive meeting of the party in Belagavi from October 2.  BJP National Organisation General Secretary Ram Lal will conduct a three-day training programme for party functionaries in Bengaluru from October 21, Yeddyurappa said.

He said there had been good response for the party’s Tiranga rallies held to mark the 70th Independence Day. As many as 207 rallies had been held across the state and 800 more would be organised by August 26, he said.
