Minister for Minor Irrigation T B Jayachandra said that there was a need to promote eco-toilets across Bengaluru, so that it would help conserve energy for agriculture purpose.

Jayachandra was addressing an international conference and exhibition on best practices in Sustainable Water, Wastewater, and Energy Management at the Indian Institute of Science in the city on Wednesday.

“The country’s ecological footprint is dismal at 0.6 hectares,” the minister added. He said around 50% offices in Germany have eco-toilets. The total waste water generated in the country is 70,000 million litres per day and out of this, only 30% is treated.
