You can also be a part of the Green Bengalooru Campaign (GBC), just like 40 Bengalureans who have joined hands to save the trees of the city and also ensure that the right ones are planted.

GBC member and tree warden Sheshadri R told reporters that the group is partnering with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), elected corporators of all 198 wards and residents of Bengaluru. The idea is to improve the urban eco-system by enhancing green spaces, water bodies and urban forests in a scientific and sustainable manner.

Sheshadri said anybody can become a member by giving calling group members on 9845448387 and mention the ward in which he or she stays.

The volunteer can attend ward level meetings and training programmes to increase awareness among other residents of the area on tree preservation. A WhatsApp group of volunteers, tree wardens and GBC members has been made to share information.

The objective of the campaign is to plant and nurture at least 1,000 trees in each ward this monsoon, rejuvenate water bodies in all wards and help BBMP create a mini forest in every ward. The campaign also aims to maintain the trees in all the 1,146 parks in BBMP limits and ensure that trees are not axed.
