Redeployment of teachers: Child rights panel chief hints at tough stand

Last Updated 20 August 2016, 17:59 IST

Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Dr Kripa Amar Alva hinted at taking a tough stand to protect the interest of government school students, who have been crying hoarse against redeployment of additional teachers.

Reacting to media queries after receiving grievances from students as well as parents, besides office-bearers of school development monitoring committees (SDMC) at the Government Higher Primary School, Gandhinagar, on Saturday, Alva said, “I will meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday. It is only after that the commission will take a stand. During the meeting held on Saturday, I submitted a memorandum to the chief minister making it succinctly clear about the violation of child rights.”

300 complaints

Alva said, “The commission has received 300 complaints from across the state against the redeployment of teachers. Since the order was passed in the Cabinet, I do not want to act in haste, but will take a balanced and cautious step. I have been meeting
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait, school development monitoring committees and also teachers since this issue cropped up.” To a query on delay on the part of the commission in taking a stand, Alva denied the same and said, “I believe in results.”

Earlier, however, while addressing the grievance holders, Alva said, “Perhaps we have not taken a strong stand so far. I have met everybody in this regard, except the principal secretary, who does not understand the issue, as the law itself is confusing.”
