District in-charge and Public Works Department Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa unveiled Mysuru Dasara logo and launched the Dasara website at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Saturday. The famed Dasara is scheduled to be held from October 1 to 11, this year.

The minister will also launch the Gajapayana, the journey of the Dasara elephants, at the Tribal Ashrama School of Nagapura in Hunsur taluk on Sunday.

The first batch of six elephants will arrive at the Aloka Palace in Ilvala on the outskirts of the city on Monday. They will be accorded a traditional welcome on the Palace premises on August 26.

The Dasara executive committee had conducted a contest for the logo for this year, and 160 logos were received from 83 artists from across the state.

Out of the 10 shortlisted logos, the design of Lokesh Raudi of Bengaluru-based Adi Creatives has been chosen. The colour blue is given prominence in the logo as the theme this year is water conservation. The artist has bagged a cash prize of Rs 5,000.

The minister also launched www.mysoredasara.gov.in, the official website of Dasara in view of providing all relevant information — in both Kannada and English to tourists. Some of the key information available on the website this year includes the steps taken by the district administration for water conservation and on awareness programmes on water conservation; on ‘Palace on Wheels’, a one-day package tour of all the palaces in and around Mysuru; on helicopter joy ride; on Dasara souvenirs among others. The website will be updated on a regular basis for the benefit of tourists, the minister said.

The website will furnish information on the programmes related to Dasara, the time
and venue, route maps, guidelines, information on hotels, tourist places around Mysuru, and links to the KSRTC and Railway websites will be available.

“In view of enabling the people to watch the torchlight parade, a major attraction of the Dasara, after the Jamboo Savari, five huge LCD screens will be placed at vantage points and the event will be telecast live,” the minister said.
