200 generic drug outlets to be set up in state

The work on setting up 200 generic drug outlets in Karnataka under the Jan Aushadhi scheme of the Central government will be launched  on October 2, according to the Union minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers, H N Ananth Kumar.

Of the 200 outlets, 168 would be set up in district and taluk centres, while 32 others will be set up in community health centres.

Around 580 varieties of generic medicines will be supplied to each store. The Union government has sanctioned Rs 2.5 lakh to start each store.

The minister said that a Pharma Park would be set up in Karnataka if the state government could allot 100 acres of land.

Ananth Kumar said that Health Minister K R Ramesh Kumar had responded positively to the proposal of the Pharma Park.
